Q: How should an LDN list their credentials?

A: LDNs should use the designation LDN after their name on all professional correspondence, as this is the legal designation for licensing in the State of Louisiana.  In accordance with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association, the Board recommends the following order for listing your credentials:  name, an indication of educational attainment if it is used, RD, LDN, followed by other certifications.  The following is given as an example:  Jane Doe, MS, RD, LDN, CDE.

Q: Do board members receive a salary for serving on the Board?

A: No. Board members serve in their capacity as board members without compensation but are reimbursed for necessary expenses incurred while engaged on board business.

Q: I'm an LDN, do I have to submit my CE hours to the Board for renewal?

A: The Commission on Dietetic Registration requires the equivalent of 15 hours of certified continuing education per year. If you hold a Registered Dietitian (RD) credential, you may submit a copy of your current CDR card with your renewal application.

Q: What are the responsibilities of the supervisor of a Provisionally Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist?

A:  1. Provides sufficient guidance and direction to enable a provisional licensed dietitian/nutritionist to perform competently. Be readily available by telecommunications or in person. Review the provisional dietitian/nutritionist quarterly and submit a written report annually to the Board. 2. List the Provisional Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist on the LDN’s renewal form which is submitted to the Board office. 3. Notify LBEDN office if you are no longer supervising the Provisional Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist

Q: Can several LDNs within an agency share the supervision of a Provisional Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist?

A: Yes, each supervisor should list the names of all Provisional Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionists that they supervise (full-time or part-time) on their renewal form that is submitted to the LBEDN office.  One LDN should be designated as the “supervisor of record” and maintain supervision records.
