Board member nominations are closed at this time.
BOARD COMPOSITION:
Eight board members, all appointed by the Governor and subject to Senate confirmation, as follows:
(a) Four shall be licensed dietitians/nutritionists selected from a list submitted by the Louisiana Dietetic Association (now Louisiana Academy in Nutrition and Dietetics (LAND)).
(b) One shall be a licensed registered nurse selected from a list of names submitted by the Louisiana State Nurses Association.
(c) One shall be a person with a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major course of study in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management selected from a list of names submitted by the Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry.
(d) One shall be a licensed physician selected from a list of names submitted by the Louisiana State Medical Society.
(e) One consumer who shall be selected from the state at large. The consumer member may apply directly to the office of the governor.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT LBEDN:
- There are typically four regular meetings per year, but additional special meetings may be called as needed. Travel expenses are paid, but there is no reimbursement for time. Term of office is for three years or until a successor has been appointed.
- Nominations will be submitted directly to the required entity and then qualified nominees names are sent directly to the Governor by the entity. The Governor will appoint the board member(s) and the appointment(s) are subject to Senate confirmation.
- LBEDN's board members have typically been very active and engaged in the business of the Board. Being a LBEDN board member requires a commitment to attend board meetings, attend conferences as requested, participate in committees, as well as a commitment to communicate with the board members/staff on a daily basis, reviewing emails and/or applications.
- All board meetings are conducted in-person, as the Board does not meet the requirements to conduct virtual meetings, according to Act 393 of the 2023 Regular Legislative Session.

Our mission is to assure the consumer of qualified licensed professionals. In pursuing our goal, we provide a process by which consumers may file complaints against our licensees or persons practicing dietetics/nutrition without a license.
